Family Tree

Welcome to my blog!   I am not sure what is is going to be, but I have a lot of thought rumbling around about are and family and day to day stuff, so I thought I would share those things here.  Many bloggers post every day or only stick to one topic.  I am not that disciplined, so we'll just have to see what happens here.  Please post comments.  I hope this can be a dialog. So let's talk about families.  Mine is big and disjointed and loud and nurturing.

fam·i·ly  (fm-l, fml)n. pl. fam·i·lies

1.    a. A fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children.
     b. Two or more people who share goals and values, have long-term commitments to one another, and reside usually in the same dwelling place.
2. All the members of a household under one roof.
3. A group of persons sharing common ancestry.
4. Lineage, especially distinguished lineage.
5. A locally independent organized crime unit, as of the Cosa Nostra.
6.
     a. A group of like things; a class.
     b. A group of individuals derived from a common stock: the family of human beings.

I love genealogy research and art that contains family photos. This is a Family Tree that I made with old photos.  The background is old letters and recipes. Most of these were photo copies so I could keep the original intact. The tree trunk is all sepia photos of relatives who have passed away.  They are the trunk or foundation for our family.  The leaves on the tree are all family members, some related by blood, others we "adopted" along the way, but all family non-the-less.  These photos all have torn edges and are highlighted in green.  There are image transfers on the bottom that are the homes we lived in and the pets we kept.  There is a garden of virtues with buttons from my Grandmother's button box as the flowers.  I have made several of these for members of my family.  I hope you like my first post.

More Family Trees.....

This is the Family Tree I made for my mother.  I have included some closeups below.  I can see our good friend Linda at the top.  I see Kathy Leavis, who lived with us briefly in the early 70's and a student of my moms who was like family for a while.  What is family anyway?  I have always thought of family as this big extended group of people who you love and accept and support and cheer for and fight with and forgive.  That is my family.
